check these out, this is a spread for the book BLACK LINE, WHITE LIE, they're two pages from the "venus" chapter. that's the chapter of only drawings of women..get it, venus?....anyway they're all black line drawings of the girls, like all the drawings in the book are black line, get it "black line" white lie?

the drawing on the right of the thor woman was used for the first "hessfest", although then it was called "www.derekhess.com fest"..kind of long don't you think? that's why it evolved into "strhessfest". i'll break down the history of all that for you someday, anyway.... here's the link to that POSTER

ok, so the opening went great....lots of swell folks like my buddy paul braun showed up. i went to school with paul at the cleveland institute of art. paul is an amazing sculptor and he's based in st. augustine, so you're pretty lucky folks in st. augustine to have him. be sure to check out his work....

ok, me and jose just left the gallery (space:eight) checkin' everything out. this look great, show time starts at 5 and we will be their. the opening goes to 11....so all you folks who live 5 hours away you could leave at 5 and still have an hour to hang out ;)

1st the book! i'll be talkin it up on here a bit. i ran into a guy and he asked me whats new, i told him about "black line, white lie", and he's like "how come i didn't hear about this?"..well i told him to see whats going on make sure you sign my guestbook and read these updates.

ok we're here, we're staying in a best western off i-95 this time, there are no red roofs in st. augustine. it's a nice place, they charge you more if you have a pet though, RR doesn't, RR approves of pets, and so jose approves RR's.

stopped in the gallery, space:eight, and met up with rob, the owner and everything looks good. he always does a great job, i showed here once before 5 years ago. it's nice to be back, it's been too long between shows here in the aug.

well me and jose are at a red roof in statesville NC. we're on our way to st. augustine for my opening this friday (see november 29th update 'gettin' cleaned up').

i forgot to mention i have two new fish/WWII plane pieces. one is based on a sturgeon, and the other on a crappie. you can check them out in the original archive gallery.

oh, and if you don't know, my new book went on sale today, see the previous update for all the details. i hope you all like it, there's been a ton of sales to the UK, maybe i should get over there one of these days :)

here is jose utilizing the free wifi here at the red roof. he's youtube-ing old school black and white popeye cartoons, you know the ones when popeye's mouth doesn't match his mumbles, and he mumbles a lot, part of what makes those cartoons brilliant. jose's watching some black and white felix the cat tunes as well. those are all kinds of brilliant too.
