as far as you floridians go, i hope you know i have a show in
st. augustine which opens a week from today. the show is called "
half the time it could seem funny" and is at '
space:eight". some of you folks may also know at some show openings i do something for the no kill local pet shelter. i'll be doing this next may at my show in mississippi and will also do it at space:eight friday. what i do is raffle off a '
cgc signature series' graded
captain america comic book that i did the cover for. all the proceeds will go to the shelter '
Wags and Whiskers'.
As far as what a
CGC comic book is....
CGC, Certified Guaranty Company, is a professional comic book grading company based in Sarasota Florida, they set the standard for the conditions of comic books. Three professional graders all go over one book, they each come up with a number from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest possible score. They then average out the three and that number is the official condition of the comic. Once that is determined, the comic book is sealed in a protective plastic case that can't be opened to preserve the condition.
As far as the comics for the shelters go, they are
CGC "SIGNATURE SERIES" books. These comics are signed by me and the only way CGC would authenticate my signature is if I did the signing in front of them. So I drove down to Sarasota in 2005 with a pile of books and they witnessed me autographing them. I'm probably not going to do it again, so the batch I have will be it. I don't sell these comics, the only time they are available is at these kinds of events.....so the raffle is only at the opening and the drawing will be around 10pm.
this is the one that will be raffled .... it's a 9.2
