book and animal shelter events tomorrow

for those of you in the cleveland area, i'm going to be part of two events tomorrow.

first is a book signing that kent and i will be at....and yes jose will be their too!

it's for our book "please god save us", maybe you've heard of it ;)

Loganberry Books is hosting a "Local Author Book Fair" as a part of the Larchmere Flea Market and Festival. Derek Hess and Kent Smith and Jose will join 35 other Cleveland area authors selling and signing. The Book Fair is from Noon - 4PM on Saturday June 27th. The Street Festival starts at 11AM and goes to 5PM.






after that i'll have a piece in an art auction for PAWS, a cleveland animal shelter.

Art Helping Animals will benefit PAWS by generating funds to keep the foster program running and medical expenses covered for the animals. PAWS currently has about 60 pets in its foster homes, and is on track to adopt out between 450 and 500 pets this year alone, according to Amy Beichler, the director.
PAWS is one of the oldest and most lauded pet rescues in Cleveland. Founded in 1976 by a group of four women, the 501(c)3 is dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats in northeastern Ohio.

girls in my hood / new art piece

so, i got my heart broken from a second future ex-wife in my hood tonight. first was this girl amanda, she works at the dave's supermarket down the street from me on payne ave. every time me and spodee go in there we look to see what checkout register she's stationed at. absolutely every time she rings us up, i say something along the lines of "how you doing", or some generic greeting, her response is a "fine, how are you?" with completely no eye contact, like  she's talking to no one. so one day i went down the cereal isle and she was walking down it as well, me being the quick thinker (quick dork) i ask her where the dog food was, she just points to another isle without saying a word and walks on passed...OW. so i gave up on miss amanda.
tonight, there's a woman's shelter around the block from me on east 22nd and payne, i've written about it before. i walk jose by there a lot and all the ladies love him. it's always a "good morning jose", "that jose, he walks proud", "i love me that jose", you get the idea. it was 90 degrees earlier today and humid so jose didn't want his longer walk this morning. this evening the cold front went through and it's really nice out now. so we go on our longer walk which takes us past the shelter.
we get there and he's getting all the lovin', lots of talk about michael jackson dying, and the new bicycle cops that are riding around the hood sneaking up and busting people, which i think is awesome. they all feel differently about that, so i keep my opinion to myself.
at the shelter they always have a cleveland cop walking around to keep things cool, and about a month ago there was this blond police woman working it, she was all hot in her bullet proof vest and pony tail. that night she told me and jose to get off the property because guys aren't supposed to be talking with the woman on the grounds, so we went on our way.
during tonight's jose greetings and michael jackson talk i see her come walking out, so i tell everyone to have a good one, jose says his goodbye's and we go down the side walk to where she was standing. me being the silver tongued devil, say "hi", she replies with an emotionless "hi" back...so i think to myself i've got to say something else, so being the quick dork thinker all i could come up with was, "it's cooled off nice", her response was absolutely nothing...OW!
i think she might think i'm from a men's shelter because i'm bullshitting with everyone and i'm wearing old shorts and an old "shogun" shirt (anyone remember that band from denver?)...anyway, if anyone knows either of them tell them derek say's hi.

i'm working on a pretty big piece, i just got started with it. the first person to tell me what the direction i'm taking with it / what the image might be / or subject matter is, will get a free "isis" poster.




yeah it's a really bad camera phone picture, should make it a little tougher.

palin on today tomorrow

more palin drama....sarah and her husband are now playing the martyr's with this david letterman thing. they are such white trash...anyway, sarah palin will be on the today show tomorrow morning on nbc at 7 am east coast time....should be good.
as far as letterman goes, i'm going to be tuned in tonight, cbs at 11:30 pm.

speaking of the today show, erin burnett is filling in for meredith vieira. i have such a crush on erin, so waking up in the morinng has really brightened my day... as far as meredith goes, she's soooo tired, nbc needs to buy her contract out.
