here's jose's progress report....this morning jose walked from east 26th to east 16 and back, the equivalent of 20 city blocks. when we got to 16th i felt we needed to go back and he just stood there, looking at me and then looking downtown, he does that when he wants to keep going. i had to pick him up, turn him around and make him start heading back. we ran into these two guys coming out of the gas station where i get my coffee, they were getting their 40 ounces. i told them the story about jose getting run over a week and a half ago, they were all about how well he's recovered. the one guy goes "that dogs a solder".

first off, if you're not familiar with the silk screening process it, give it a google, it would take way too long to explain it.

here's the four separations i used to make the "presence" print. please excuse the quality of then photo's.

all seperations are done by hand, no computer is ever involved with my silk screen prints.

this is the first separation which is the orange. this color was printed over the entire piece of paper except where the angel will be and where the wings and hair will be. this way the you can use the white of the paper as a fourth color. i used ruby lith cut out with an exacto knife. i also took an opaquing marker and drew some in the area where the figure will be.

this seperation is done with "ruby lith" like the last one. this is the blue that was laid down on top of the orange. as with the orange one, i drew with opaquing marker in the area of the figure so when the skin color is printed it will create another tone from the over lap. this way you can get more colors from the three you're working with.




this is the skin separation which is laid down third. it's all done with opaquing marker. this way i can take an exacto knife and scrap off areas where the white of the paper comes through creating high lights.

dana (the woman who saved jose's life) stopped by the studio tonight while she had a break at the plain dealer, which is 2 blocks down from here. jose total knew she was the one that took us to the emergency animal clinic and was all about her. what an awesome person, i wish this world had more folks like her.
 here's two pictures of the joyful reunion...








jose has now barked at a few folks and can hold his tail up like it was always held. it's not constant,  but it's miles from it just hanging there with no life.

ok, jose was run over on monday, today he barked at a guy riding his bike in front of my building (first bark since the trauma) and he can now wag his tail - pretty amazing - thanks for all the positive thoughts

i took jose back to the vet this morning, he hasn't been lifting his tail up, it's like just dangling. so the vet shaved all the hair off his butt and found a huge bruise. she thinks he's been keeping the tail down to protect it. the tip on the other hand may have some nerve damage and that may not heal. other than that, they are amazed on how well he's doing, he's eating and drinking like a maniac, walking around, all be it at times pretty gingerly, wants to ride my shoulders again in the car, wants to go on short walks, some are very short, but for what had happened it's pretty amazing. he's still sore, like you are after some impact trauma, similar to when you're in a car wreck, but that's to be expected.

it's 12:40 am and i just got dropped of from a cab from the emergency animal hospital. a few hours earlier, me and jose went to a warehouse across the street from us to east 21st and superior. we went to drop of our recycling in a dumpster behind the daffy dan's building. on our way back across the street, an suv stone cold ran the light and drove right over jose. i freaked, looked at jose, he looked like he was dead, i then took off after the car. the suv did a u-turn and head for me so i pulled the chain out of my pocket and smashed out the side widow when it made it;s pass. i then ran back to jose in the middle of the street. his eyes where open, but he wasn't breathing. i closed his eyelids thinking he was dead. just then he started a gargling breathing. at that point a woman who works for the cleveland plain dealer (clevelands daily paper which is a block away) stop and said she saw it all, got the guys plates and would drive me to the animal hospital. i completely lost all her information, name etc, but i have to say, she's one of the greatest people in the world. had she not stopped to pick us up, we would have never made it all the way out to the brook park animal hospital.
i really thought jose was going to die because of the blood coming out of his nose and his gurgling breath. after his check up, it appears he got a concussion and a bloody nose. the suv clearance under the car was high enough to not kill a little dog...this time.
